Sainsbury’s charities of the year 2011/2012

It has almost been a year since Sainsbury’s Hazel Grove chose The Furniture Station charity to work alongside The Wellspring as Sainsbury’s charities of the year 2011/2012. Amongst many local spectators, The Furniture Station joined the Sainsbury race  showing their support at Stockport School  in February, in which Sainsbury’s CEO himself Mr Justin King also ran.

It has been a great year to work with Sainsbury’s and along side The Wellspring. Sainsbury’s have supported continuous fundraising for the Furniture Station with our very appealing (and demanding!) trolley tokens on sale at customer service, bag packing opportunities and collection boxes raising funds at tills.

Croftons Solicitors support the Furniture Station once again

Croftons Solicitors have kindly supported the purchase and installation of a new PC for the Project Manager’s desk. With the previous PC being over 10 years old, it was time to be out with the old and in with the new, and assist the Furniture Station’s Project Manager, Alan Gunnion to manage the work of the Furniture Station more efficiently.

Jeff Palmer, Partner at Croftons Solicitors said “In an evolving world of technology, we are glad that we have been able to help The Furniture Station with the cost of updating their PC to enable them to continue in their fantastic work of helping others in the local community”

TTS Networks Limited worked alongside Croftons Solicitors with the gesture by kindly installing the PC & updating the software at the offices. Croftons Solicitors, being a long-term supporter of the Furniture Station’s work financially supported the purchase. This is not the first time TTS Networks and Croftons Solicitors have assisted the Furniture Station; The fundraiser’s computer was also replaced mid-2011 with the assistance of Croftons Solicitors &  TTS Networks.

The Furniture Station continues to work alongside local organisations and businesses, in working together for the benefit of the community.

Funding for Cots and Beds Project

The Furniture Station have updated their profile at The Big Give with the latest projects for 2012. You can now read more about our specific projects  we are working with by clicking  here .

Delivering Beds & Cots

The project we are currently launching is to help fund our latest bed and cot demand.   It is due to health and safety reasons that we are limited to the number of beds we can accept from donors, and can only supply new cots. With a high demand for such essential items, there is a waiting list for those which do come in. We therefore need to seek funding to purchase new beds and cots for our clients. It costs just £65. 00 to purchase a single bed and £99. 00 for a double bed, cots are £110. Our minimum target for funding these items until December 31st is £7,000.

Case Study of Project: A new Start

I moved from the hostel to my new flat. All I felt like doing was curling up and sleeping. The Furniture Station arrived and not only did they bring me a new bed but a pack of bedding too. The feeling of clean sheets on a new bed will stay with me for a long time. I felt I’d been given a bit of a head start with a bit of help and comfort – I don’t honestly think I’d have stayed at my flat with no bed and bedding. Thanks to the Furniture Station I was given the start I needed.’  Sue, Stockport

Collecting up to Macclesfield to meet demand

The Furniture Station is re-launching their campaign to encourage people from more local areas to call up to donate their unwanted furniture & electrical goods as to throwing them away and prevent them from ending up in landfill.

The Furniture Station work

The Furniture Station collects unwanted furniture & electrical items from Stockport and outer areas.

Several years ago, the charity increased the collecting area to as far as Macclesfield, including areas of Tytherington, Poynton, Alderely Edge, Wilmslow, Prestbury and Adlington.

It is now re-lauching the awareness of collecting in these out of areas to encourage further donations of furniture & electrical items to meet the high demand in providing for families & individuals in need.

Any one wanting to donate their items to be collected free of charge from any of these areas can call 0161 456 0717 or request a collection through clicking here.

£1,500 was raised on the night; with entertainment that included a spectacular raffle and silent auction.

It was a pleasure to have special guests The Worshipful the Mayor & Mayoress of Stockport , Cllr Les & Jackie Jones attend yet another one of our functions this year.
