Co-op staff swap Stockport’s pyramid for our upcycling workshop

Fridays at The Furniture Station are usually pretty quiet – but that wasn’t the case last Friday! Our HQ was wonderfully alive with creativity and chatter as staff from the Co-op in Stockport came along to try their hand at a spot of upcycling.

Swapping a day of work at Stockport’s big blue pyramid for a day of volunteering at our workshop, they were shown the basics of upcycling as part of our Corporate Volunteering Day initiative, before having a go themselves. Painting up cabinets, tables and a host of other items, they turned some worn dark furniture items into stylish items that will be made available for our clients to select upon visiting our warehouse.  Using Annie Sloan chalk paint to coat and then clear wax to finish, our brilliant volunteers also tried their hand at stenciling, creating some fabulous unique designs.

Corporate Volunteering Days

The Furniture Station’s corporate volunteering days are just one of our recent initiatives to support individuals and families facing crisis in our local community. They offer a great opportunity for team-building, the chance to learn some valuable new skills and the means to really help local families who may have fallen on hard times.

Items up-cycled on team-building days make a welcome addition to the furniture available to clients when they visit our warehouse – offering something modern and stylish alongside more traditional wood pieces.

The painting workshops are a great way for larger businesses to get involved with a local charity through any company volunteering days entitlement.
