Vitality Health staff volunteer their time for a spot of up-cycling

If you’re a local business and you want to give something back to your local community through volunteering – The Furniture Station is now offering corporate workshop days where employees can learn to up-cycle furniture and help us support families experiencing hardship.

DSCF5865The guys from Vitality Health were the latest firm to come along and try their hand at a spot of up-cycling – and they created some pretty amazing furniture transformations!

Five staff from the locally-based firm swapped a day in the office for a shift in our painting workshop. Guided by our brilliant Furniture Station volunteers, Janet and Tom, they were shown how to give tired-looking furniture a new lease of life using Annie Sloan chalk paint.

The corporate volunteering days are just one of the Furniture Station’s recent initiatives to support individuals and families facing difficulties through providing good-quality furniture items for a nominal charge.

The painting workshops are a great way for businesses to  get involved with a local charity through any company volunteering days entitlement.

Arran Hulme, one of the Vitality Health volunteers who took part in the day said:

“I loved it, it was such a nice thing to get involved in. Great team activity that hopefully also adds value to a great cause.”

He was also quite surprised by the de-stressing benefits up-cycling offered – a welcome change from the day-to-day pressures of working life.

“It was really quite therapeutic, calming, and surprising how rewarding it felt, both in terms of giving a new lease of life to an old pre-loved bit of furniture, but also knowing it might just help someone rebuild a home,” he said.

“Its such a great idea, and so accessible for anyone to get involved. I haven’t stopped raving about it since we helped out!”

The Furniture Station is also launching ‘The Up-cycling Station’ – an initiative that will see local volunteers looking to gain further skills up-cycle high-quality furniture for resale to the general public with all proceeds helping us continue our work supporting vulnerable people and families.
