There’s always so much going on at the Furniture Station! From volunteers manning the phones helping with queries and arranging furniture collections, to goings-on in the warehouse: building, repairing, painting and prepping…all so local people in need of essential items can choose furniture items to make their flat or house a home.
This week we thought we’d give you a bit of an insight into the work of the amazing volunteers preparing furniture for our referred clients…
Introducing… Ken and Michael our trusty workshop wizards who regularly donate their time and valuable skills to The Furniture Station, to help us fulfil our mission. They ensure furniture is in tip-top condition and any necessary repairs made before items enter our warehouse to be re-homed.
As well as re-building dismantled wardrobes and repairing items in need of a little TLC, they even make items from scratch such as tables and newly sized wardrobes. Pretty impressive, hey?!
Ken, is also helping us with our Up-cycling Station project – our latest initiative to raise further funds to support our operations. The Upcycling Station will see us give a new lease of life to pre-loved furniture items using fashionable Annie Sloan chalk paint – which will then be sold to the general public. Ken has been putting his brilliant skills to good use creating a bespoke painted bench (see main photo) ready for our launch event on Thursday 3rd August.
