The Vernon Building Society has shortlisted The Furniture Station to receive an award from The Vernon Building Society’s Jubilee Fund of £10,000. Now it is down to you – the general public to collect tokens inserted in August’s weekly Stockport Express for our charitable cause & help us secure operational costs so that we can continue to help people with essential items of furniture.
How does it work?
The Furniture Station will be featured in the Stockport Express every Wednesday from 10th August – 31st August 2016. Collect as many tokens as you can and drop/post them into our offices at Hazel Grove Baptist Church (see our address) BEFORE Monday 19th September.
Why support The Furniture Station?
We operate to assist residents of Stockport & surrounding areas who are experiencing hardship with the delivery of essential items of furniture that can easily taken for granted, such as a mattress to sleep on, a settee to sit on or a dining table to eat from so that our neighbours can be supported into their home to maintain their tenancy and prevent them & their families from becoming homelessness.
We operate on a referral basis only from some 50 local organisations in the area including council services & local housing. If clients are not with a voucher, dining chairs are simply from £2.50, bedside cabinets from £5 and beds with mattresses from £10 – all inclusive of delivery to a Stockport address.
It has been a challenging couple of years, but we are determined with 4 staff & 26 volunteers to continue our mission for as long as it is needed. Too many people enter accommodation without something to sleep on. Support us to help us continue our work and relieve poverty.
